Welcome to St. Mark's Preschool!

We are a year round preschool that serves children from age 24 months until their entry into Kindergarten.  Open from 7 am Monday through Friday and closing at 6 pm, we have a variety of schedules to meet your particular needs, including half day and full day programs. Programs, tuitions and fees are given on our Tuition & Enrollment Schedule.

We welcome children in diapers.  If your child is not yet potty trained, we charge a small, additional monthly fee for the additional supervision needed while we help with that process. This fee goes away when your child is fully potty-trained. This amount of the fee is commensurate with your child’s enrollment schedule and is described on the Tuition & Enrollment Schedule.

Our program is based on the developmental and spiritual needs, interests and experiences of preschool-age children. Each age group and classroom has been carefully and lovingly planned to be balanced and to prepare your child socially and academically for their school years ahead in the public or private sectors:
Our curriculum encourages your children to explore their imagination and to develop problem-solving techniques. Our religious context is reflected in the joy, caring and watchfulness of our amazing staff who create an environment in which each child here becomes more and more aware that they are of infinite worth, and that their classmates are, too.  Our teachers love their work, take delight in your child’s discoveries of the world around them, and deeply respect childhood.

All our teachers are qualified in Early Childhood Education and Child Development college-level courses, and our school is licensed by the State of California and certified by the Episcopal Commission on Schools, which has awarded us their highest rating.

Our advisory board is the Vestry of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and our chief executive officer is The Very Reverend Canon Mark A. Weitzel, Rector of St. Mark's.

To arrange a tour or get further answers to your questions about available enrollment or enrollment procedures, please feel free to contact Julia Peacock, Office Manager, at 818-242-8045. She can also be contacted by email at dayschool@stmarksglendale.org.

I love this school, my staff loves this school, and I am confident that your child will also love this school and benefit from their time here in untold ways! We hope that you will make an appointment to see the school in person, talk to the staff, and ask us any questions not answered below.  We look forward to meeting you!

MASTER CALENDAR & HOLIDAYS

The school is open year round (we do not close during the Summer months), but is closed for normal holidays, Good Friday, Easter week, and Christmas week. In addition there are three student-free days each year for purposes of attending to classroom & yard maintenance (in July and August), and two minimum days each year (closing at Noon) for purposes of staff development. For events and school holidays:

SNACKS

We provide two snacks each day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, consisting of healthy non-sugary foods and juice. We do not serve foods made with or containing nut or nut products. We do not provide lunch, except on Fridays for an additional and optional fee, when we provide pizza, fruit and juice or water for those who have signed up (there is a quarterly fee of $45 to participate in Pizza Fridays).

Please click here for an example of our monthly snack schedule.

DAILY ACTIVITY SCHEDULE

Each classroom has been carefully and lovingly planned to include balance: a balance of indoor and outdoor activities; quiet activities and those which are active and very active; teacher-directed and child-selected; traditional learning techniques and the learning that comes from play and exploration.

Please click here for an example of our Daily Activities Schedule.

CHAPEL

Our chapel program takes place Monday through Thursday at 11:30 am in the classroom, led by the teachers. Typically it is approximately 15 minutes of Bible story with an activity that illustrates the story.  On Fridays our Pre-K children go into the church chapel for prayer with Deacon Susie. Children take turns being the acolyte (lead their classmates into the chapel with a pint-sized cross), lighting the altar candles, snuffing the altar candles, and offering prayers for whatever is on their minds. They love the ceremony of it, and the chance to offer prayers into the little microphone!

SPECIAL OFFERINGS

We are very pleased to have a relationship with two special instructors we’ve contracted with to provide extracurricular activities for interested children.  We offer a karate class on Mondays from 3:30 to 4:15 pm; and a dance & movement class on Tuesdays from 3:30-4 pm. Both programs are optional and available at a separate fee for each 8-week session.

This year we will also be offering a series of concerts tailored to young children. Each concert will be about 20-30 minutes in length and will feature organ, French horn, a band that uses old-fashioned kitchen ware, and more. These concerts are free and more information on dates and times will be furnished to our parents throughout the year.

We are also very happy to be able to present four parent talks this year with two family therapists. These informal evening gatherings will be scheduled between October and May and give interested parents an opportunity to ask questions and seek insight on issues of concern or curiosity.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

We do not require volunteer hours at St. Mark’s Preschool. However, throughout the year there will be opportunity to parents to help out with special events or activities. Look for the sign-up sheets in your child’s classroom.

TUITION ASSISTANCE

We do accept children whose families are receiving financial assistance through Lanterman Regional Center (mild to moderate special needs), CCRC (lower income assistance) or CalWorks. For more information on these programs, please see the website links below.
We also offer a limited number of partial scholarships to families experiencing financial hardship. For more information, contact Julia Peacock in the school office (818-242-8045 or dayschool@stmarksglendale.org).

NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY

St. Mark’s does not discriminate against children or families on any basis, including race, religion, national origin or family structure, and you will find that firm belief readily apparent in the diversity of our students and staff alike.
